Are you thinking about getting a logo designed for your company?
Here are 3 Great tips for a successful Company Logo
When designing a logo or ordering a logo design from a Graphic Designer,
you need to have a understanding of what makes a great logo.
Here are some simple tips complied by the ezylogo team:
TIP 1.
Keep your logo design simple - less is more
All great logo designs are simple, single minded and clear.
By having a logo that is clean and simple, your logo will be easily recognizable from a distance. This is important when your logo is on signage, in advertising and in other highly competitive areas.
Do not have lots of lines, clutter and abstract images.
Only have an icon if the icon or image represents your business instantly.
A couple of examples of clean simple logos are:
McDonalds
NAB - a great example of a re-designed brand
APPLE
NIKE
TIP 2.
Colour: its an important part of your company's image
When choosing the colour scheme for your new logo ie: your company's image, you need to think about your business. What emotions and brand values does your business want to portray?
Do you want to be seen as:
Inexpensive? Premium? Trustworthy? colour can play an important roll.
For example,
What colour do you think of when you think about the brand 'OPTUS'?
Yellow no doubt, so why would Optus choose Yellow?. Yellow is a strong retail colour that will stand out in advertising while also giving the consumer a retail/urgent feel. Plus yellow also suggests 'value for money' as yellow is usually associated with specials.
Another unique example is Tiffany & Co.
Tiffany & Co have used an aqua type colour which not only suggests 'premium and quality' but is now so strongly associated with the brand that the colour itself is trade marked.
Furthermore, a great logo should be designed so that it can be used equally as well in Black and White as well as Full Colour. This is important for times where colour is not an option.
For example, Fax, Black and White Newspaper Ads etc.
TIP 3.
Longevity: timeless design
A great logo should stand the test of time, sure the logo can be re-designed in the future - but the initial design should be created to last decades.
So what makes a logo date?.
Fancy, gimmicky typefaces are a sure bet to fail the test of time.
We suggest using classic type faces for the typography of a great logo.
Sans Serif Type faces, and Serif Type Faces.
Examples of logos that have lasted the test of time include:
SONY
VOLVO
Coca-Cola
